TEC Consulting, which belongs to TEC, being one of the largest engineering groups in Lithuania, is expanding its export of engineering services in the Baltic countries and establishing a company in Estonia. The decision to establish the new company ‘TEC NordEngineers” was driven by the orders received and the successful start of operations.
The tender for electricity network balancing services organised by Elering, an independent electricity and gas network operator in Estonia, will provide Lithuanian engineers with significant opportunities, creating a market for these services in Estonia worth 500 million euros. Balancing services have become particularly relevant following the synchronization of Estonian electricity networks with the continental European electricity network.
“The disconnection of the Baltic countries from the BRELL power ring and their synchronization with Western Europe opens up new opportunities for engineering companies in our region. Lithuanian engineers are experienced and have the knowledge and skills to directly contribute to strengthening Estonian energy independence. It is predicted that synchronization projects will create a market worth approximately 500 million euros in Estonia, so we are establishing a local company that will become a springboard for further growth,” says Giedrius Andrulionis, the Director of TEC Consulting.
According to him, the company is starting its activities in Estonia with project management, commissioning and adjustment services. As market demand grows, the company plans to expand its activities and specialise in the design of high-voltage (110–330 kV) power lines, testing and the adjustment of relay protection systems. The Head is confident that operations in Estonia will help the company expand into other countries in the region. TEC Group aims to be a centre of engineering competence in the Baltic region, combining advanced technological solutions, sustainability and the highest standards of quality and safety.
Since 2023, TEC Consulting has been carrying out several significant projects in Estonia. One of them is a feasibility study for the Estonian Cell plant regarding the installation of gas-fired generators, which would ensure an independent source of electricity. A feasibility study is also currently being prepared for the construction of a biofuel boiler plant for Viru Elektrivõrgud OÜ, and commissioning and adjustment works are being carried out at the Enefit 280-2 oil shale processing plant being built by Enefit Industry.
“Unlike Lithuania, which has chosen electricity storage facilities to stabilize its networks, Estonia has decided to establish a decentralized network of high-power gas-fired internal combustion engines with electric generators. All this provides our companies with a wide range of opportunities to consult on energy, technology and sustainability issues,” says G. Andrulionis. According to him, feasibility studies for such projects are currently underway, along with the preparation of preliminary design solutions and investment plans, but the long-term perspective is also being assessed. In the future, these projects will need to be implemented and operated, which creates an opportunity to grow exports of high-value-added services and enhance the energy security of the entire region.
The experience of TEC Consulting covers the entire life cycle of energy facilities—from design and consulting to commissioning and optimization.
