The best BIM project of transport infrastructure – a viaduct over a railway in Mažeikiai designed by TEC Infrastructure

July 2, 2020

The viaduct over a railway in Mažeikiai designed by TEC Infrastructure has won the transport infrastructure prize in the competition “Lithuanian BIM Projects” organised by the VšĮ “Skaitmeninė statyba” and the Lithuanian Constructors Association. A committee of experts assessed construction projects of 2019 that were implemented by applying the technologies and methodologies of Building Information Modelling (BIM).

The viaduct of 436 metres in length is raising at Algirdas street in Mažeikiai, in the area of a current level crossing, 4800 m3 of concrete, 440 t of steel and 520 piles were used in its construction. The team of TEC Infrastructure has prepared concept and detail designs in the BIM environment. “We thank our partners and clients for evaluating the benefits of designing in a BIM environment. In this large scale project, the work performed with BIM has not only saved working time, but allowed to perform the design, production and installation of structures much quicker”, – says the Head of Bridge Department at TEC Infrastructure Domas Čėsna.

The BIM projects implemented in 2019 were assessed by the committee of experts taking into account the use of BIM when searching for design solutions, ensuring sustainable and green construction, the innovative use of project information as well as standards and methodologies applied within the projects.

“We are among the first designers of transport infrastructure in Lithuania who works in the BIM environment, therefore we can evaluate the benefits of this methodology from actual experience. We are happy that more and more clients and contractors in Lithuania start seeing the benefits of digital design. In Northern Europe no one questions the need of this, – adds Arūnas Ruokis, the Director General of TEC Infrastructure. – Before taking up designing works we always analyse the needs of the client and the contractor thoroughly, adapt to their processes and use the most appropriate technologies and applications. When designing this project, several different models and environments were used. The project also involved parties from several countries”
